About the movie

English — Self-contained and reticent, Steven Grootboom considered an outsider by some members of his community, lives for his family and his income generating vegetable garden. Unexpectedly, Steven’s world comes crashing down when he is diagnosed with breast cancer. This devastating news takes a toll on Steven, his wife and most of all Steven’s relationship with his son who’s in the middle of his high school examinations.

French — Réservé et taciturne, vu comme étranger à la communauté par certains membres de celle-ci, Steven Grootboom se consacre entièrement à sa famille et à son potager qui lui assure un revenu. Son monde s’effondre quand un diagnostic établit qu’il est atteint d’un cancer du sein. La mauvaise nouvelle le dévaste et change sa relation avec sa femme mais surtout détériore celle avec son fils, qui prépare ses examens de fin de Bac.

About the director

English — Ntombozuko « Twiggy » Matiwana is a versatile aspiring filmmaker. She has produced and directed number of student films. Her film “See, Speak and Hear no Evil” about violence against women was accepted at the Encounters Documentary Film Festival 2013. In 2014, her film “waterless flower” was selected among the finalist in a Spain Film Festival focusing on water and basic sanitation around the globe. In 2015, Twiggy wrote and directed “The Bicycle man”, her first short film.

French — Ntombozuko «Twiggy» Matiwana a réalisé un certain nombre de films pour étudiants. «See, speak and hear no evil», son film sur la violence faite aux femmes, a été sélectionné aux Encounters Documentary Film Festival 2013. En 2014, son film «Waterless flower» était parmi les finalistes du festival du film espagnol, qui focalise son attention sur l’eau et les nécessités de base dans le monde. En 2015, Twiggy écrit et réalise «The Bicycle man», son premier court métrage de fiction.
