About the movie
English— In the 1990s, Israel established government-built caravan sites for Russian and Ethiopian immigrants. The cultural differences and poverty created tension between the immigrants. Abraham, a 9-year-old immigrant from Ethiopia, teaches himself Russian in order to to survive the difficult conditions. He meets his neighbor Marina. She invites him inside her caravan. She is astounded by his Russian and compares him to the Russian national poet, Alexander Pushkin, whose grandfather was Ethiopian. Abraham and Marina create a unique bond- two immigrants from different parts of the world, both connected by the same caravan site.
Française—Dans les années 1990, Israël a créé des sites de caravanes construits par le gouvernement pour les immigrants russes et éthiopiens. Les différences culturelles et la pauvreté ont créé des tensions entre les immigrants. Abraham, un immigrant éthiopien de 9 ans, apprend le russe en autodidacte afin de survivre dans des conditions difficiles. Il rencontre sa voisine Marina. Elle l’invite dans sa caravane. Elle est stupéfaite par son russe et le compare au poète national russe, Alexandre Pouchkine, dont le grand-père était éthiopien.
About the director
English— 32 years old. Born in Moscow and Immigrated to Israel during the large immigration wave in 1991. Spent his childhood at a government-built immigrant caravan park. In 2019 written and directed two short movies about the immigrant caravan sites– “The last caravan” (Haifa International Film Festival 2019, best screenplay in the Indian World Film Festival) and “Pushkin’s Pants” (Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival 2019). Received script development funding for writing a feature script on the Russian Immigration wave. His next short film “The General” has received production funding and will be shot in 2020. His documentary work – “Caravan #44” was accepted to the Van Leer intellectual workshop. Created and Written a television series – “The Russians” (2016) that was broadcast on Primetime Israeli Television Channel 10.
Française— 32 ans. Né à Moscou et a immigré en Israël lors de la grande vague d’immigration de 1991. A passé son enfance dans un parc de caravanes d’immigrants construit par le gouvernement. En 2019, a écrit et réalisé deux courts métrages sur les sites de caravanes d’immigrants : “La dernière caravane” (Festival international du film de Haïfa 2019, meilleur scénario au Festival du film du monde indien) et “Les pantalons de Pouchkine” (Festival du film juif de Jérusalem 2019). A reçu un financement de développement de scénario pour l’écriture d’un scénario de long métrage sur la vague d’immigration russe. Son prochain court-métrage “The General” a reçu un financement de production et sera tourné en 2020. Son travail documentaire – “Caravan #44” a été accepté à l’atelier intellectuel Van Leer. A créé et écrit une série télévisée – “The Russians” (2016) qui a été diffusée sur la chaîne de télévision israélienne Primetime Channel 10.
