About the director

English— Calen Slain grew up homeschooled with eight siblings in a derelict neighborhood of Michigan. He first gained notoriety at age 20 with the haunting short doc “It Ain’t Over” which premiered at SXSW and Telluride. Within five years his collective works had received millions of internet views, six Vimeo Staff Picks and been used as teaching materials at USC, NYFA, and USF. In 2016, Slain launched the experimental writing app Flowstate which garnered praise from Wired, The Verge, GQ, and dozens more. His latest film “DEMON” was awarded Best Narrative Short at the Austin Film Festival, and his surreal virtual reality collaboration with Eminem, “Marshall From Detroit,” premiered at Sundance 2019.

Nathan Nzanga — lead actor, music artist. Born and raised in Seattle, Nathan Nzanga is a first-generation Congolese-American storyteller with a whole lot of love to share. Recognizing the power in his pen, Nate speaks of a universal truth while taking his audience on an invigorating ride reflecting on his journey through life’s ups and downs. Sonically, Nathan wears all of his influences on his sleeves, blending hip-hop with elements of folk, R&B, soul, gospel and musical theatre. Nathan wouldn’t classify himself as just a rapper, but a SoulPop Storyteller. From his widely resonating track, “Truce,” produced by Nathan Yaccino (Soundgarden, Noah Gundersen) and Andrew Joselyn (Macklemore, Kesha) to his following hit, “Trixie,” produced by Royce David (Lil’ Mosey, Gunna), Nathan has developed a proven track record for creative success. Most recently, Nathan has collaborated with Prodigy Camp for the Oscar Qualifying cinematic musical film enough. The film marries Nathan’s heart gripping lyrics with powerful visuals as he searches for understanding in a world in need of love.

Nathan Nzanga – acteur principal, artiste musical.
